The Art of Calligraphy

The Art of ’drawing'the letters of a language has become widely known as Calligraphy - one of the oldest types of arts and probably the first form of artistic performance after the creation of written signs. The old art has its origin since the formation of the oldest cultures using alphabets ( in the Middle East ) and has been widely influenced by the different cultural movements in Europe ( such as the Gothic Calligraphy styles) and Asia ( the famous Chinese calligraphy ). Just as nowadays, even simple shop signage can contain art that challenges and provokes, any writing can be seen as an opportunity to engage through the art of calligraphy.
This form of art nowadays offers specific application. Expositions and calligraphy galleries are rarely seen but on the other hand this is the art that has an enormous historical and applicable meaning.
Historically, calligraphy studying helps researchers translate and study the old manuscripts and written works since the Ancient times. In the middle ages, when most of the texts created were theological and historical, almost every writer was using calligraphy to design and form his texts - this was the only way of achieving a recognition of a work and also the book as a whole was considered the strongest way of expression. Later, after the creation of the typing machines and even nowadays, calligraphy is still used to decorate the pages and the covers of the written works. Calligraphy is also used in churches and other religious places for decoration and in order to keep the authentic look of the place. On the other hand, in China, hand-writing the specific Chinese signs is still considered a form of calligraphy approach and it takes years to master.
This ancient form of art expresses not only the art of depicting the verbal language into signs, but also highlights the importance and the beauty of words. Once considered the ultimate way of expression, calligraphy nowadays is one of the most fascinating and applicable forms of artistic expression.
