Beatles best album cover?
Beatles Albums of 1967. Remember those. You’d think you were under the influence just by looking at them and their inventive musical packaging solutions. With all their rainbow colours and floating around and out of proportion pictures. The designers must have been having a whale of a time in those party hard days of that era.
How about1967s album cover for the song Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band? That is probably considered a classic album cover even today. Apparently is has been lorded as one of the most expensive cover albums of its time. This was probably due to the input of over seventy artists that collaborated on this award winning album cover.
The cover has the beatles name picture in flowers surrounded by characturers of the beatles and famous mega star images. The band members are decked in physicholdelic uniforms that in more somber colours could be said to resemble old style army or band member uniforms.
The cover resembles a contemporary art masterpiece where photographic imagery is paired with pasted images of various forms and sizes not necessarily in perspective. Above the grassy patch of plants with the beatles name planted there are small figures or female dolls around the perimeter and Chinese type models as well as a stone bust.
The people surrounding the group seem to be made up of other popular figures including themselves dressed normally, famous actresses and singers. Charlie Chapin stands out with a yellow painted hat. Even though the comedy sketches were black and white I somehow don’t think his hat could have been such a bright yellow.
Bob Dylan is also depicted albeit in monotone clack and white. The colour scheme is certainly physicadelic and seems to represent many movers and shakers of the world both past and present.
