Neil’s Yard a Blissful Haven in Covent Garden, London

Lost on a sunny summer’s day meandering in Covent Garden along old world cobblestone streets I stumbled onto a small village courtyard down a narrow alley to a little hippie haven named Neil’s Yard named after the developer, Thomas Neal in the 1600’s. He created the Seven Dails, a design of streets in the vicinity, which together the layout out is a symbolic star and coincidently has attracted astrologers and the occultism since it’s beginnings. Hidden in the center of tall Victorian buildings this blissful intimate square with cheerful painted storefronts housing various shops, restaurants and a funky hair salon, About Hair by Fairy is nestled amongst an abundance of greenery creatively planted in oil drums, each a different color inviting one to stop and sit in its lush paradise. People watching is amusing while simply enjoying the atmosphere with a cold drink or dine on a vegetarian / vegan meal with a friend at Neal’s Yard Salad Bar or Juice & CafĂ© Bar.

The shopping offers a distinguishing array of collections, to name a few there’s a favorite that I visit regularly, which is Neal’s Yard Remedies, a company of shops throughout the UK yet maintaining a quaintness supplying a plethora of dried herbs and tinctures amongst other organic healing and skincare products, its sales team are knowledgeable and helpful, this is the only place in London that I could find a warts treatment for my husband that actually worked. Opposite the store sits their massage and facial treatment salon located on the first floor called Neil’s Yard Remedies Therapy Rooms. Another long-standing shop is the skater shop, Slam City Skates supplying everything revolving around skateboards including the latest sport clothes and trainers. If you’re interested in cheeses, there’s a popular Dairy store around the corner, a bit outside the square on Short Garden Street called Neil’s Yard Diary. It is what some might describe as being in ‘cheese heaven’ with the wafting smell of all sorts of the moldy specialties. Below is the address for Neal’s Yard:
